The Role of Marketing in Healthcare

Healthcare marketing refers to marketing strategies used by the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries to help the general public learn about a wide range of health related issues. In the case of private health care providers, they could try to get more people to use their services.

It’s essential to know how online healthcare marketing plan works.

Healthcare marketing providers’ amount of money spent on digital advertising is expected to outpace the amount spent on TV advertising this year. Usually, people look for health care providers on the internet. That’s why it’s so important to have a good marketing plan in place so that you can get people’s attention online. We talked about some social media hacks for pharma marketers a few weeks ago. These tips could help you improve your digital marketing, so use them!

Although most people now search for their doctor on the internet, they still prefer to make an appointment by phone. Keep in mind that 88% of appointments are made over the phone.

Healthcare consumers also like to learn more about a provider before contacting them to set up an appointment or other health related service. They may also look at what other people have said about certain healthcare providers.

Consider the following:
  • 94% look at online reviews to see how providers are doing.
  • According to 84% of people, they trust online reviews and personal recommendations.

Tips for a Successful healthcare marketing strategy Campaign

Healthcare Marketing

Healthcare marketing is crucial for getting people’s attention and making your company look honestly and professionally. However, as with all marketing campaigns, you must make sure they are based on the facts. Customer reviews are the most important thing for people to believe at the end of the day. As a rule, they’ll only think about your campaign if it is similar to what they’ve heard or read about you.

Challenges Healthcare Marketers Face

On the other hand, making a good marketing campaign isn’t always easy. Even though they have to deal with some of the problems that healthcare marketers have, some of the unique issues to the healthcare industry are targeting limitations, special copywriting, and a balance between authority and empathy.  Fortunately, there are a lot of good healthcare marketing campaigns that can serve as good examples of how to market. With this in mind, we’ve put together a list of some of the best healthcare marketing campaigns from the last few years to give you ideas.

6 Healthcare Marketing campaigns

Healthcare marketing campaigns can also tell people why it’s essential to avoid specific health risks and get people to do good things or try your products. As discussed in our previous blog about brands’ coronavirus responses, having a good (digital) communication strategy is essential. Even when you need to tell people about possible health risks and avoid them, this is because the coronavirus pandemic has shown us how important this is.

In the past, there have been pandemics, but this one isn’t one of them. These are some of the best healthcare marketing campaigns that we’ve seen. It’s all about campaigns to fight HIV and the coronavirus.

1- Patient Experiences at New York-Presbyterian Hospital

What better way to entice new patients than to share the inspiring stories of those you’ve already helped? The New York Presbyterian Hospital is an excellent example of real-life stories to show potential customers what to expect.

Their video marketing strategy for 2013 was based on the success stories of people whom their medical center had saved.

2- Dead Zone Radio: Organ Donor Foundation

It has been working to spread the word about organ donation in South Africa since 1988. In 2017, they came up with a truly brilliant way to get people’s attention. Radio signals go out when cars go into an underground parking garage, so they found this case. A group called the Organ Donor Foundation sent them a message that could have saved their lives when the signal went out. They saw an ODF message as soon as they got into the underground parking lot, telling them to become organ donors.

3- #FCKHIV- MTV

For the following best example of a healthcare marketing campaign, we will stay in South Africa. A Johannesburg based company called Ogilvy & Mather helped MTV develop a way to fight the spread of HIV in South Africa by reaching out to young people who aren’t being told about safe sex by traditional health campaigns.

A campaign was started by MTV on World Aids Day in 2016 to get their (mostly younger) viewers to get checked for HIV. In the beginning, they did something simple that set off a new social media trend. People were told to post a picture of their middle finger with the hashtag #FCKHIV.

Their post was seen more than 1.2 million times in five hours, and #FCKHIV was the top trending topic on Twitter for nine minutes.

One could say that it was a pretty good online campaign.

4- Education about vaccines for COVID-19 – the Ad Council

As the coronavirus pandemic has shown us, communication is important in all industries. But in healthcare, it’s even more critical, as the pandemic shows. Surprisingly, giving more information is the best way to fight false information. The council says so, at least. To clear up any misconceptions concerning vaccinations, they launched a campaign to educate the public. As a result, a flurry of inquiries concerning the COVID-19 vaccination poured in from throughout the world. Vaccines for the coronavirus pandemic will be easy to explain in this manner. This will increase vaccination rates.

5- Pause for a moment at the UN.

We have to talk about the United Nations and their Pause campaign about COVID-19 misinformation. Think about what you want to say before you share. The United Nations started a campaign that asked people to fact check everything they saw on social media to stop the spread of misinformation, conspiracy theories, and fake news about the coronavirus.

6- See me, Scotland – The Power of Okay.

There’s also mental health, and that’s the last thing to talk about. It affected both our physical and mental health. As the name implies, it is a quiet killer. Talking about mental health still has a stigma attached to it. We can follow See Me Scotland’s lead. In this way, we can learn how to fight the stigma around mental health.

The Power of Okay campaign was launched by See Me, Scotland, in 2015. The campaign’s goal was to fight stigma and discrimination against people with mental illnesses, especially in the workplace. In addition to a great video about how important it is to talk to each other, See Me, Scotland also gave workers and brands educational resources to help them understand and fight against mental health stigma. See Me, Scotland employees were also provided excellent teaching tools to assist them to understand and battle mental health stigma.

It should be no surprise that a strong marketing plan is essential in every business. There’s no difference between the health care industry and any other business. When you’re in health care marketing, you can use it for many different things, like getting new customers and warning people about health risks.

This blog has shown us that there are many ways to get your health related message out there. These campaigns can be used as inspiration.

It’s important to note that while healthcare marketing has its own set of problems, the benefits it can bring far outweigh the drawbacks, making it an important part of the healthcare field.
